Why All Writers Should Blog

Why All Writers Should Blog - cozycreativewriting.wordpress.com

In 2013 there were about 152,000,000 blogs on the internet. It’s 2018 now, so that number has surely grown since then. As a writer, you should be apart of that awesome statistic.

You’ve probably heard it before, but if you’re a writer you should have a blog or a website. Here are 5 reasons why:

1. Regular Writing Practice

Blogging consistently (and you should always blog consistently) will give you a good chance to practice your writing skills.

Often times us writers will go through ‘dry spells’, also known as Writer’s Block™, and we’ll just stop writing for a few months because of it. This makes our writing skills rusty and later we’ll need to put in extra work to get back to the levels we were at.

You can prevent this by blogging regularly and forcing yourself to continue writing even when you have Writer’s Block™.

It may seem difficult when you don’t feel like writing, but even just 500 words a week will help keep you in practice.

Blogging will also give you the chance to regularly practice editing, as you’ll want to make sure that your posts are polished before they are published.

2. Increase Your Confidence

Blogging will also increase your confidence, because it gives you regular writing practice.

When you start blogging regularly, your writing skills will improve, and you will notice it in your work. This will give you a sense of self-esteem, and will also encourage you to continue writing and blogging!

3. Grow an Audience

Blogging provides a unique opportunity to plant seeds, water them, and cultivate them into a unique purple vegetable called an au-

Oh wait no, sorry my bad. I was think of aubergines (also known as eggplants).

Blogging provides a unique opportunity to cultivate an audience by telling them about your work as a writer and offering words of wisdom on writing.

Growing an audience will help you gain confidence in your writing skills and will help you get future writing jobs and sell future books. It will also give you a chance to interact with other members of the writing community.

4. Promote Yourself

A blog is also a good way to promote yourself and your work, especially if you grow a large audience.

It will take time and effort, but having an established blog will help you learn about marketing and promotion, which could lead to more sales of your next story.

If you’re looking to sell a book or direct people to your other sources of writing, blog posts about launches, cover reveals, and sales can create a drive for readers to purchase your work.

5. Help Out Other Writers and Other Writing Organizations

Lastly, a blog is also a great way to help out other writers and writing organizations, by promoting them and their work.

Book reviews are great for authors, and so you can help a fellow writer out by reviewing their work or promoting them!

You can also help other writers by telling them about writing organizations or events that they’d be interested in.

Do you think you’ll be starting a blog?

  1. Writing is an art everyone should delve into.

    1. Thank you! I’m pretty sure that writer’s block isn’t trademarked, but it’s become a bit of a running joke online that universal experiences (such as writer’s block) get a trademark symbol. 🙂
